Errol Flynn Tribute Website - Who is Andrea?
Errol Flynn

"You know more about me than I do. How would you like a job?"

Who is this Andrea person?

Andrea Who?

I've been an Errol Flynn fan since I was a young girl and saw him in .... drum roll .... The Adventures of Robin Hood of course. It wasn't just that he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, it was more than that. It was the energy, playfulness and sense of mischief that he brought to the role. The twinkle in his eyes and the sense of humour about himself that really got me.

But there's more ... somehow he managed to combine all that boy'ish charm with a mans deep sense of duty, responsibility, righteousness and absolute confidence that he was doing what needed to be done. It was, and is intoxicating. I mean, isn't that the kind of fella we all want - boy'ish but not a child!

Well, I'm a June Gemini and based on my life dilemma's ie: the two rather well defined and distinct personalities, each diametrically opposed to one another and pulling in different directions, I really feel like I 'get' our man Flynn. If I had my way I'd be a National Geographic photographer or a photojournalist endlessly travelling the world and exploring. I'd still have my four kids, a fabulous, adventuresome, totally wonderful guy, a nice home, safety and security all rolled up into one tidy, totally fulfilling package.

Three out of the four of the kidlets, though we are all a little older and wiser now! I've done a fair bit of travelling (but not near enough) and I am a photographer but not the kind that I thought I would be. I live with those four great kids, in the country in a nice home, but long for adventure and far away places - I really get it!

Like our dear Errol, I am not happy unless I'm juggling many different things at the same time and pushing myself to learn and experience new things. In fact, I'm quite miserable unless I have a project, something to totally, absolutely dive into, like this Errol Flynn website for example. Touching the surface isn't enough, I gotta go deep into it or it just doesn't feel right and certainly won't be good enough in my eyes. Can't be idle, gotta be doin' something that I feel passionate about. Maybe that's the key ingredient ... feeling passionate about what you do and the world around; a sunset, the color of fall leaves; whatever it is, it is felt and resonates deeply. Pretty good quality cause I have a good time whatever I do.

My little part of the world Right now I'm working on this website and doing more research. I built my community tourism website and ran it for years King Tourism and then I closed down because the township didn't support it, but I was and remain passionate about the need for it.

I have my photography business Springhill Photography specializing in lifestyle/events, community events and profiles, nature photographs for prints and greeting cards. Sometimes the best day is just driving the country roads and taking photographs, coming home and finding some real gems. I do a lot of other stuff in my community ... trying to contribute what I can to help make my little part of the world a better place, and desperately trying to ignore the small town political crap while doing it.

I also do events and managed my communities outdoor movies on the lawn Starlight Movies and am trying to pull together a Classic Film Festival. I've had some experience with such things back in the day. In fact, I've been in and around the film business most of my adult life in one form or another. I worked at Paramount Canada in the days of Frank Mancuso and spent a few years at the Toronto International Film Festival, today known as TIFF. I dated the film types and then married one.

One of my all time favourites The Philadelphia Story, starrintg three of the best; Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant & Jimmy Stewart I'm a classic film nut. Give me an Errol Flynn, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart or Audie Murphy; Carol Lombard, Greer Garson and others of that ilk any day. Or how about the magnificence of Busby Berkeley and Gene Kelly! Film noir, westerns, war movies or the innocence of the romantic comedies and I'm a happy camper. My youngest, who secretly loves them and misses them when she's away asks me why? The only answer that I can come up with is that those films held so much promise for the future. They were little morality plays and the distinction between good and evil really was black and white (pardon the pun). They were exquisite to watch with fabulous lighting, snappy dialog and subtext galore.

Then there's 25+ years in advertising which was great because things changed every day. Our agency had some pretty high profile accounts and launched Apple Computers to the market in Canada, and started the Molson Indy. It was great fun, but the people made it amazing. All great minds with creative ideas were amazing to work with in a team environment where egos were parked at the door and it was all about what worked. Had to be some of the best times, wish I could recreate them.

For years I have owned and operated an online art deco antique store called Deco Days Antiques & Collectibles and I just loved it. In act, I just love the era and all that it represents, and have written a few articles on it - "Birth of the Modern Age", "Art Deco Lighting" and the "Care and Maintenance of Vintage Watches".

So that's it .... except that I get bored and cranky with ignorance and stupidity, and have no patience for the game of politics.

I believe in fairness, and that the 10 Commandments could be narrowed down to "Thou shalt treat thy neighbour with fairness" and that would take care of all the rest. I believe in being kind, and that it's actually easier than the opposite. I believe that it's really, really, short sighted to throw stones at your neighbours house because you are likely to do something dumb pretty soon and they'll think they can throw them at yours! I don't believe there is such thing as perfect - "God save us from perfect people or those that think they are".

There's more, but this should be plenty ..... is it all escapism do you think?

Thanks for letting me rant.
